RANGPUR, Feb 08, 2017 (BSS) - Taramon Bibi, Bir Pratik, has stressed on mainstreaming of the autistic and intellectually disabled children by taking proper care and extending supports to turn them into human resources.
"The intellectually disabled and autistic children are not at all burden of the society and they can bring success and pride for the nation if their inherent talents were properly flourished," she said at a ceremony held at Rajibpur upazila town in Kurigram on Tuesday.
Taramon Bibi, a living legend of the War of Liberation, inaugurated
construction works of the Bir Pratik Taramon Bibi School for Intellectually Disabled and Autistic Children at Char Rajibpur Bottola in the upazila town as the chief guest.
Society for Welfare of the Intellectually Disabled (SWID), Bangladesh extended assistance in establishing the school for educating the autistic,intellectually disabled and mentally retarded children of the area to make them able and worthy citizens.
With Rajibpur upazila Chairman Shafiul Alam in the chair, President of upazila unit of Awami League (AL) Abdul Hye Sarker attended the ceremony as the special guest.
Appreciating the authorities of SWID Bangladesh for extending support in launching the school, upazila Chairman Shafiul Alam said it would play vital role in turning the autistic and mentally retarded children of the upazila into worthy citizens.
"The autistic, intellectually disabled and mentally retarded children deserve their proper constitutional rights, but not mercy, and they must get all privileges and human rights, as they are the integral parts of the whole society," he said.
The chief guest said the autistic and intellectually retarded children should not be considered as burden of the society and they must be provided with opportunities for education in congenial atmosphere, normal mental and physical growths.
She highly appreciated the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her daughter Saima Wazed Putul for extending necessary supports and supports to the autistic and intellectually disabled children to turn them into worthy human resources.
