DHAKA - Thengamara Mohila Sabuj Sangha (TMSS), a non-government organization, is distributing relief materials to 6,000 flood-affected families in the haor areas of four districts - Sunamganj, Kishoreganj, Habiganj and Netrokona.
TMMS, in cooperation with the local administrations, has been carrying out relief operations since April 29 and the campaigns will continue till May 8, an official of TMSS told BSS here today.
As part of the relief distribution programme, relief materials were distributed today on the premises of Sunamganj Sadar Upazila.
Deputy Commissioner of Sunamganj Md Rafiqul Islam, TMSS Executive Director Prof Hosne-Ara Begum, Director of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) of TMSS Nigar Sultana and Consult ( ICT) of TMSS M Khairul Islam, among others, were present on the occasion.
Each flood affected family is being given 15 kg rice, 3 kg flattened rice and 2 kg sugar.
At the function, Prof Hosne- Ara said both the government and the non-government organizations should stand by the flood-hit people in haor areas to minimize their sufferings.
Alongside distributing relief materials, TMSS has set up medical camps in different points of haor regions under four districts to provide healthcare services to flood-hit people.
"After completing distribution of food staff, we will start providing healthcare facilities with cooperation of local administrations to check outbreak of post-flood diseases in the haor areas," said Nigar Sultana.
