DHAKA, May 30, 2017 (BSS) - Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said a Navy ship carrying urgent relief assistance of Taka 1.87 crore has been sent to cyclone "Mora" affected areas.
"Around 20,000 homes have been damaged in the storm. The government has sent relief assistance of Taka 1.87 crore for the affected areas," he told a press conference today at the ministry conference room.
Replying to a question, Quader, also general secretary of Awami League, described the BNP's call for withdrawing cases against BNP leaders and workers as irrational demand.
"Our party leaders also have been facing cases. So, we have nothing to do in regard of BNP Secretary General's demand," he said.
In reply to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's criticism, Quader said the BNP, not the Awami League, had been lost in the political quicksand by not participating in the 2014 national polls.
