Three egates set up at Dhaka airport

DHAKA, Three electronic gates (egate) have been

installed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the city as the

government is going to launch epassport within the next month.

Distribution of epassport will start on July 1. We installed three e

gates in the HSIA on trial basis. The immigration officials were imparted

training on operating the epassport gate, Brigadier General Saidur Rahman

Khan, director of the Introduction of ePassport, and Automated Border

Control Management Project, told newsmen today.

The egate, however, will be installed gradually at all the airports and

land ports across the country, he said.

According to Immigration and Passports Department sources, 50 egates will

be installed in Dhaka, Sylhet and Chattogram international airports and

Benapole and Banglabandha land ports.

Once the epassport is launched, the immigration process will be easier

for the people, the sources said, adding that the passengers could not stand

in queue as the egate will be open automatically for the people having

verified and valid information.
