Thai Ambassador to Bangladesh Makawadee Sumitmor on Thursday visited Aarong Centre in the capital to discuss and exchange Thailand’s experiences on entrepreneurship and social enterprises, as well as to explore avenues for cooperation between the two countries.

A team from the Royal Thai Embassy in Dhaka led by the ambassador also visited Aarong’s design studio.

Makawadee was impressed by the art of Nakshikantha (embroidered quilt), said the embassy.

Aarong is Bangladesh’s largest lifestyle retailer, founded in 1978 to empower rural artisans to rise above poverty.

Cottage, micro, small and medium enterprises make up a vast part of Aarong’s supply chain, and about 65,000 rural artisans are now working with it.
