NEW DELHI -State Minister for Post and Telecommunications Tarana Halim has called for spreading the spirit of Language Movement from generation to generation, containing the ideals of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
She made the call speaking as chief guest at a discussion meeting at Moitri Hall of Bangladesh High Commission here Tuesday evening.
The discussion meeting was held marking the International Mother Language Day and Amor Ekushey.
The state minister said Bangabandhu had observed hunger strike in jail taking other inmates with him to protest the atrocities of Pakistani autocrats on February 21 in 1952.
"We are against militancy and communalism and we are in favour of independence," she said and urged all to give priority to patriotism above anything else.
High Commissioner Syed Moazzem Ali delivered the welcome speech while Press Minister Farid Hossain moderated the discussion.
Commonwealth Journalist Association (CJA) Secretary Jayonta Roy Chowdhury and Dr. Susmita Das Gupta took part in the discussion. UNESCO Director Shigeru Aoyagi also spoke on the occasion.
Syed Moazzem Ali said the nation's journey towards emancipation has started from February 21 in 1952.
He called upon all to enrich Bangla language to show respect to language movement.
