Take vow to make Bangladesh prosperous: Rehana

Sheikh Rehana, Bangabandhu’s youngest daughter, on Tuesday urged the people of the country to make a vow on the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to build a prosperous and poverty- and corruption-free Bangladesh.

“On this day, let’s all pledge together that we’ll bring smile to the faces of unhappy people with whatever we have. And we’ll build a beautiful, prosperous and poverty-free, corruption-free and illiteracy-free country,” she said.

Sheikh Rehana said this while addressing the inauguration of the ‘Mujib Borsho’ celebrations marking the birth centenary of the greatest Bangalee of all times, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

She also called for taking a pledge to love ‘Sonar Bangla’ and spread the light of Bangabandhu’s ideology to every house. “No-one can suppress us anymore,” she added.

“Though my father is not among us, he is in the hearts of crores of people,” the Bangabandhu’s daughter said in her speech telecast by Bangladesh Television and different private television channels.

“The father (Bangabandhu) used to say that no nation can stand up keeping its head high without making dedication and sacrifices. We can find the sacrifice a man can make for the country and for the people in his autobiography ‘The Unfinished Memoirs’.”

Sheikh Rehana said the great leader never bowed down to any injustice, and devoted himself to the wellbeing of people.

On the birth day of Bangabandhu, she remembered with deep respect Bangabandhu’s mother Sheikh Sayera Khatun and his father Sheikh Lutfar Rahman as well as his beloved spouse Renu.
