Tajul seeks Japanese assistance for rural development

DHAKA Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Minister Md Tajul Islam today sought Japan's enhanced funding for rural infrastructure development.

He sought the assistance as a three-member delegation of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) met him at his office, said a press release.

Tajul said Bangladesh needs enhanced aid and technical assistance from Japan for the smooth implementation of the 'Amar Gram Amar Shohor' project.

The delegation assured the minister of necessary support for the project. They said currently financial assistance provided by JICA to 18 projects of the LGRD ministry is more than Taka 13 thousand crore.

They also said Japan is working in urban-rural development and disaster management in Bangladesh and expressed interest to work in waste management.

JICA's chief representative in Bangladesh Hiroshi Hirata, senior representative Koji Mitomori, representative Hiyoki Watanabe, LGRD secretary Helaluddin Ahmed and additional secretary Dr Kazi Anowarul Haque were present, among others, on the occasion.
