A week-long income tax fair began at the local gymnasium here this morning under the auspices of zonal tax office, Mymensingh.
Religious Affairs Minister Principal Motiur Rahman formally inaugurated the fair as the chief guest.
Commissioner (Taxes) GM Abul Kalam presided over the inaugural meeting. Vice Chancellor (VC) of Bangladesh Agricultural University Prof Dr Ali Akbar, Divisional Commissioner GM Saleh Uddin, DIG of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun were present as special guests.
Motiur Rahman said the government has arranged tax fair to encourage the tax payers to pay their income taxes easily. They could be able file tax returns on line from the fair.
The minister said the government has taken various steps to modernize the tax payment system.
He urged the tax payers to pay their income tax regularly. On the other hand, those who are able to pay taxes should come forward to enlist their names as tax payers in the greater interest of the country.
Around 17 stalls have been set up in the fair.
A good number of tax payers, leaders of district chambers of commerce and industries, leaders of income tax lawyers association and other business community leaders and officials were present at the inaugural session.
