DHAKA, May 30, 2017 (BSS) - Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan today said the government has taken measures for smooth and safe journey of home-bound passengers during the holy Eid-ul-Fitr in river route.
"Steps have been taken for easy movement of home-bound people in river route during Eid-ul-Fitr," he told a meeting of BIWTA at its office at Motijheel.
Shipping Secretary Ashok Madhab Roy, BIWTA Chairman Commodore M Mozammel Haque, BIWTC Chairman Engineer Dr Gana Ranjan Shil, Director General of Directorate of Shipping Commodore Syed Ariful Islam and Deputy Inspector General of River Police Md Moniruzzaman, among others, were present in the meeting.
Shahjahan Khan urged the law enforcing agencies to check additional fare charged from the people. The minister also urged the ship owners' not to carry additional passengers in the vessels.
He said members of Ansar and community police would be deployed to maintain law and order in Sadar Ghat area and the city road from Bahadur Shah Park to Sadar Ghat will be made hawker free during the Eid.
