Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque said here today those who attacked temples at Nasirnagar will face quick trial as police are pursuing zero tolerance to this end.
Describing the incident as regretful and unwarranted, the police chief also assured the leaders of Hindu, Bouddha, and Christian community leaders at a meeting at police headquarters here saying that police administration will always stand beside them as "it is our duty to ensure your security."
The concerned people have been asked to form committees at each of the upazilas, districts, and divisions comprising people from all the religions aimed at building religious harmony, he also said.
The community leaders demanded formation of a monitoring cell at Police Headquarters to monitor the incidents of attacks on the minority communities.
Among others, additional IGPs Dr Mohammad Javed Patwary, Fatema Begum, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah, Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Committee Joyanta Sen Dipu, general secretary Advocate Taposh Kumar Pal, president of Bangladesh Bouddha Krishti Prochar Sangha Shudhananda Mahathero, general secretary of Bangladesh Buddhist Federation Ashok Barua, and Bangladesh Christian association president Nirmal Rojario were present.
