Speakers laud PM’s visionary leadership, farsightedness

Speakers at an event today lauded highly the visionary leadership, farsightedness, wisdom, courage, firm commitment of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her pursuit of steering ahead the nation towards prosperity and thus turning Bangladesh as a smart developed country.

They came up with such observations at a book introduction and publication ceremony titled “Desh Rupantorer Karigar Sheikh Hasina” held at the NEC Conference Room in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area this afternoon.

The speakers also suggested for making this book as a reference for the students, researchers, and others.

Presided over by Economic Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr Mashiur Rahman, former Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Mohammad Farashuddin spoke on the occasion as the chief guest.

Former Vice Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University Prof Abdul Bayes and Director General of the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) Dr Binayak Sen spoke as discussants.

State Minister for Planning Dr Shamsul Alam is the editor and publisher of the 521-page book. The book features some 42 write ups by eminent personalities of the country on the farsightedness and visionary leadership of the Prime Minister. The book will be available at Nimphia Publications.

Speaking on the occasion as the chair, Prime minister’s Adviser Dr Mashiur Rahman said that the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very much loyal to the constitution of the country as well as very firm and stable.

He said that the incumbent Prime Minister does not want to go to any confrontation without any reason as well as she has a very compromising attitude having patience and tolerance.

The Adviser also said that Sheikh Hasina also stays strong where she needs to become strong as well as always stays in favour of the country’s agriculture sector through providing necessary subsidies.

Dr Mohammad Farashuddin, former central bank governor and also private secretary to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, said that Bangabandhu had enlisted the country as an LDC while her worthy successor Sheikh Hasina has graduated the country as a developing nation from the LDCs.

He said that Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has been materializing each and every pledges which had been given by Father of the Nation during his term before the nation.

Dr Farashuddin also praised highly about the courage of Sheikh Hasina for her return to the country braving many obstacles prior to her assumption of office in 2009 as well as handling cautiously the situation of the BDR mutiny in 2009.

“Sheikh Hasina has now become a global leader,” he said, adding that due to the courageous and bold steps of Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh was able to hold trials and execute the verdicts of the Bangabandhu killing and the war criminals.

He said that under the dynamic leadership of the Awami League chief, Bangladesh has been able to maintain an excellent balance among the regional superpowers like China, India and Japan alongside the USA.

The country’s renowned economist also suggested for ensuring that the allowances of the social safety net beneficiaries go to the real ones, increasing the tax-GDP ratio, reducing the tendency of time over run and cost over run of projects, developing the Cooperatives movement and if possible slowing down the repayment of mega projects.

Shedding lights on the experiences of editing the book, State Minister for Planning Dr Shamsul Alam said that the period from 2009 to till date is a “golden period” for the nation because of various considerations.

He noted that under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has attained various socio-economic developments over the years like high literacy and education rate, women’s empowerment, reducing trend of maternal and child mortality rate.

Former Vice Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University Prof Abdul Bayes said that Sheikh Hasina has lifted Bangladesh into a place of dignity in the global arena over the last one and a half decade.

Listing some salient characteristics of the current Prime Minister, he said that due to her huge courage and inclination for taking risks, Bangladesh was able to build the much hyped Padma Multipurpose Bridge and performed much better in various fronts braving the shocks of the pandemic.

Director General of BIDS Dr Binayak Sen said that it would not be possible to understand the transformative changes of Bangladesh over the last 14 years unless anyone considers the leadership role of Sheikh Hasina.

BTRC Chairman Shyam Sundor Sikder, former IGP AKM Shahidul Haque, Rear Admiral (Retd) Admiral Khurshed Alam, former Adviser to the caretaker government Rasheda K Chowdhury, former University Grants Commission Chairman Prof Nazrul Islam, Bangla Academy Director General Nurul Huda, Meghna Guhathakurata, renowned media personality Shykh Seraj, Pro Vice Chancellor of North South University Prof Ismail spoke, among others, at the event.
