DHAKA, Jan 22, 2017 (BSS) - Speakers at a workshop today urged the authorities concerned to explore new markets abroad to accelerate the mango export.
"Bangladesh exported about 800 tones of mangos, mainly to the European markets, in 2015, but the amount fell to 300 tons in 2016," said Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) President Abul Kasem Khan.
He said while addressing as the chief guest a workshop on "Sharing findings of mango stakeholders' dialogue" at DCCI auditorium in the city, said a press release.
The DCCI president said Bangladesh is the 7th largest mango producing country in the world with around one million ton production.
Khan mentioned that Bangladesh needs to adopt safe mango harvesting and mango marketing practices and said a research and development platform would be formed under DCCI's initiative soon to conduct and research for the potential sectors of the country.
DCCI and USAID's Agriculture Value Chains Project (AVC) organised the workshop.
