Speaker urges all to work to prevent road accidents

DHAKA, Jan 28, 2017 (BSS) - Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today called upon all to play roles from respective positions to prevent road accidents.

"Every citizen will have to play a role along with the government to check road accidents. People of all strata should be made aware in this regard," she said speaking as the chief guest at the 7th grand rally of Nirapad Sarak Chai Andalon, a citizen group campaigning for safe road, at Mohanagar Natyamancha auditorium in the city.

Presided over by Nirapad Sarak Chai Andalon Vice-Chairman Syed Ahsan-ul Huq, the meeting was addressed by Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Anisul Huq as special guest while Nirapad Sarak Chai Andalon Chairman Ilias Kanchan was the main speaker.

Internal Crimes Tribunal Prosecutor Barrister Saidul Huq Suman and Bangladesh Truck Covered Van Owners Association Assistant Secretary Hussein Ahmed Majumder also spoke on the occasion.

Dr. Shirin Sharmin said road accident is preventable and it is possible through the creation of awareness.

Referring to the use of mobile phones by drivers and pedestrians, she urged all concerned to abide by traffic rulers.

The speaker suggested inclusion of traffic laws in school textbooks to create awareness from the early age.

Safe road is the demand of all, she said, adding that all would have to work together to implement this demand.
