Speaker mourns death of Mijarul Quayes

DHAKA, March 11, 2017 (BSS) - Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today expressed profound shock at the death of Bangladesh Ambassador to Brazil and former foreign secretary Mohamed Mijarul Quayes.

In a condolence message, the Speaker said Quayes was an experienced diplomat. His death is an irreparable loss to the country, she said.

Shirin Sharmin prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family members.

In separate condolence messages, Deputy Speaker of the parliament Md Fazle Rabbi Miah, Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif, Chief Whip ASM Feroz, State Minister for Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury and Senior Secretary of Land Ministry Mesbah Ul Alam also mourned his death.

Quayes died at a hospital in Brasilia on Friday night, a Foreign Ministry spokesman told BSS.

"Mr Quayes, who was admitted to the hospital several days ago for ailments, breathed his last at 9 pm (Brazil time) on Friday," the spokesman said.
