RANGPUR- The present government has been conducting massive awareness building programmes for a healthier nation eradicating social curses and ensuring hygienic sanitation, pure drinking water for citizens.
The information was disclosed at a documentary film show followed by social awareness building discussion held at Shyampur Puthimari Rail Colony under Chandanpat union under Sadar upazila here on Sunday, a press release said today.
District Information Office organised the social awareness building programme under Annual Performance Agreement (APA) being financed by the revenue sector.
Chairman of Chandanpat union parisahd Aminur Rahman addressed it as the chief guest with Senior District Information Officer Humayun Kobir in the chair.
Senior journalist of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Mamun Islam, local women community leader Masuda Akhter and college student Nazmul Haque, addressed, among others.
Documentary films 'Lal Sutar Biye', 'Katbe Andhar' and 'Alor Alo' produced by Department of Films and Publications (DFP) of the Ministry of Information on various social issues were screened on the occasion.
More than 1,500 people of all ages, including women, adolescents, children, students, youths, farmers, day-labourers, civil society members and religious leaders, public representatives and elite of the remote area were present.
Humayun Kobir discussed on importance of creating public awareness about negative impacts of child marriage, dowry, repression and other social curses, hygienic sanitation, cleanliness and pure drinking water, reasons behind water-borne diseases.
Journalist Mamun Islam said the government had been conducting awareness enhancing activities to achieve more success in reproductive health, sanitation, female education and other sectors for development of children and women to build a middle-income nation by 2021.
Appreciating government efforts for creating mass public awareness, Chairman Aminur Rahman called upon the common people to eradicate child marriage for properly educating girl children prevent drug abuse, use sanitary latrines and drink pure water.
