The Coast Guard has seized smuggled goods worth Tk 30 crore and arrested 18 crews from a trawler in the Bay of Bengal.
The arrestees were identified as hailing from Patuakhali, Barishal and Barguna districts.
Coast Guard chased a trawler while patrolling in the Bay of Bengal by 'Sonar Bangla' ship, 100 nautical miles away from Mongla Port and arrested 18 crews with various foreign goods, said Imtiaz Alam, operation officer, west zone, Coast Guard on Monday.
They seized 22,683 shares, 124 lehengas, 1,271 three-piece, 6,045 shals, and 20 bottles of foreign liquor from the trawler, he added.
All the arrestees were handed over to Mongla Police Station and two separate cases were filed against them under Smuggling and Narcotics Act.
