DHAKA, March 23, 2017 (BSS) - The distribution of machine-readable smart national identity (NID) cards will begin in Rajshahi on April 2 while in Barisal on April 15.
Election Commissioner (EC) Md Rafiqul Islam will inaugurate the distribution programme at Shilpokola Academy in Rajshahi at 10 am on April 2, Mohammad Abdullah, secretary of EC secretariat, told BSS.
He also said that EC Mahbub Talukder will inaugurate the smart ID card distribution programme in Barisal on April 15.
The machine-readable smart cards will prevent its forgery. For being machine readable, the smart cards have additional safety measures against forgery.
To maintain security of the smart cards, 25 international certifications and standards have been ensured. The microchips in smart cards will contain all the information of a citizen. Encrypted data would be stored inside a chip in the cards.
The cardholders will get 22 types of services, including banking, TIN, driving license and passport.
