Six to die for city AL leader Mohammadullah murder

DHAKA, May 16, 2017 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today sentenced to death six people in the case lodged over murder of Awami League's Shyampur-Kadamtali unit senior president Mohammadullah and his driver Harunur Rashid in 2011.

Dhaka fourth additional metropolitan sessions judge Jahidul Kabir pronounced the judgment, handing down life imprisonment to two others, a court official said.

The convicts are Raihan Khokon, Jakir Hossain alias Kala Jakir, Jabed, Arif Hossain, Jummon and Hira. Of them, Khokon and Hira are still at large. The court also fined them Taka 20 thousand each.

According to the case documents, Khokon and Mohammadullah both were councilor candidates from Ward no 53. Of them, Mohammadullah was favorite to local lawmaker Advocate Sanzida Khanam as she nominated him for the post.

Failing to secure the nomination, Khokon with the help of the convicts shot Mohammadullah and his driver Rashid to death on February 23, 2011.
