Former Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Professor Dr Pran Gopal Datta today said the government would set up shelter centers in phases in the district headquarters for the autistic children.
"Autistic children are also our children ... Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has arranged a shelter center for the autistic children in the capital and gradually shelter centers would be set up at the district level," he said while delivering the concluding speech at a programme on 'autism awareness' at Bangabandhu memorial museum in the capital.
Dr Pran Gopal, a renowned physician and also general secretary of Suchana Foundation, said every autistic child has potentiality and the autistic children would be mainstreamed of the society through availing their potentials.
Suchana Foundation in association with Bangabandhu Memorial Trust organized the programme.
Terming Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as children friendly, Dr Pran Gopal said she (Sheikh Hasina) loves all the children, including the physically challenged ones.
Speaking on the occasion, autism specialist Dr Stiphen, who is an autistic, narrated how he achieved successes in life overcoming the physical barriers.
About 50 autistic children and their parents participated in the function.
