Seven Nigerian among 8 held in city

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in three separate raids arrested eight members of a fraudulent gang including seven citizens of Nigeria from the city's Mirpur, Pallabi and Dakhhinkhan thana areas.

"We, in an overnight raid, arrested seven Nigerians and a local from Mirpur, Kalshi, and Dahhinkhan areas on charges of fraudulent acts," senior assistant director and also operation officer of RAB-4 Arif Bin Jalil told BSS.

A laptop, 22 mobile phone sets, two modems, scores of SIM cards of every telephone operators, some passports, most of them with expired visas, foreign currencies including US dollars, Bahrain Dinar, Nigerian Niger and Bangladeshi Taka 1.41 lakh and related documents of fraudulence were seized from them, he also said.

They used to cheat people through making calls and sending SMSs over the cell phones and embezzled a huge amount of money from them after alluring them with winning lottery, he also said.

Filing of separate cases is underway to this end.
