DHAKA, June 8, 2017 (BSS) -The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) today upheld its earlier order, staying four months the High Court directive that granted bail to controversial Tangail-3 lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana.
A three-member Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed "no order", upholding its stay on Rana's bail.
The apex court came up with the order after holding hearing on a plea seeking modification of its May 8 directive that stayed Rana's bail for four months.
Earlier on April 13, the High Court allowed Rana bail, prompting the state to file an appeal against the order with the apex court.
Rana is now in jail in a case lodged over the murder of party colleague and Freedom Fighter Faruk Ahmed in 2013.
Rana surrendered before a Tangail court on September 18, 2016, and was subsequently sent to jail.
