The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court today upheld a High Court order that granted bail to suspended Mayor of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) and BNP vice-chairman Abdul Mannan.
A four-member Appellate Division panel headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order while dismissing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to stay the High Court order.
"He has secured bail in every cases lodged against him after today's order, there is no bar for him to come out of jail," said Mannan's counsel Khandaker Mahbub Hossain.
Earlier on August 17, a High Court division bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice JBM Hassan granted Mannan bail and issued a ruling asking to reply as to why the court shall not grant Mannan permanent bail.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lodged the case on June 13, 2016, against Mannan over graft in handling relief and welfare funds of GCC.
He was shown arrested in the case on June 19.
