Sandhani and International Federation of Eye Banks (IFEB), USA, today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in order to encourage people to donate cornea posthumously to bring sights to the blind.
President of Sandhani Professor Dr Mohammad Ali Asgar Moral and IFEB President Mahmood Farazdaghi signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations, said a press release here.
Cornea are collected from a donor within six hours of the person's death based on the information provided by their family members and inserted to the eyes of a blind to bring back the person's sight, said Professor Dr AKM Salek, an eye specialist.
The IEFB technical support is expected to give a boost to the voluntary work of Sandhani, an organization of medical and dental students who promote posthumous eye donation and safe blood transfusion campaign since 1977.
