SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship: Bangladesh start campaign with Nepal match February 3

Hosts Bangladesh will play Nepal in one of the two opening matches of the SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship 2023 Friday at 7pm at the Birshreshtha Shaheed Shipahi Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Dhaka’s Kamalapur.

 

India, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh will compete in the regional competition organised by the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) under the supervision of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF).

 

The tournament will be held during February 3-9 on a league basis.

 

Midfielder Shamsunnahar has been made the captain of the Bangladesh team and goalkeeper Rupna Chakma her deputy.

 

In the tournament opener, India will also play Bhutan on Friday at 3pm at the same venue.

 

BFF EC member and chairperson of the Women’s Football Committee Mahfuza Akhter Kiron disclosed the details of the competition at a press conference at the BFF House Sunday.

 

DMD of the tournament sponsor Dhaka Bank M Mostaque Ahmed, BFF Vice-President and Bangladesh team leader Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan Manik, manager Amirul Islam Babu, head coach Golam Rabbani Choton, technical director Paul Thomas Smalley and captain Shamsunnahar also spoke.

 

In the remaining league basis matches, Bangladesh will face their arch-rivals India on February 5 at 7pm while Nepal will encounter Bhutan on the same day at 3pm.

 

Bangladesh will play Bhutan on February 7 at 7pm in their last league match while India will encounter Nepal at 4pm on the same day.

 

After the league basis matches, the two top teams will play the final on February 9 at 6pm at the same venue.
