Sabrina Islam’s eclectic photo exhibit captures the beauty of Brazil

Renowned entrepreneur, photographer and writer Sabrina Islam’s second solo photographic exhibition ‘Brazil – Beauty in Diversity’, which concludes today, enthralled audiences with the picturesque beauty of Brazil at Edge Gallery in Gulshan.

The travel photography exhibition was inaugurated by Ambassador of Brazil to Bangladesh HE Joao Tabajara Jr.

Talking to UNB about her exhibition portraying the tantalizing beauty of the world-famous Rio Carnival and other monumental and assorted scenic beauties of Brazil, Sabrina Islam said that a total of 72 of her photographs are being exhibited in this exhibition.

“In March 2019, I travelled to Brazil with the Ambassador and his wife Sandra at their invitation and I was thrilled with the diverse, colourful Brazilian culture. There I photographed the carnival in Rio, the Amazon rainforest, and Paraty on Costa Verde,” Sabrina Islam told UNB.

This was the second solo exhibition of Sabrina Islam. Her first solo travel photography exhibition titled “Wanderlust”, was held in March 2018 at the Drik Gallery in the capital. Besides, she has participated in a number of group exhibitions.

A highly successful entrepreneur, photographer and writer in Bangladesh, Sabrina Islam is the founder and CEO of Reflections, an architectural and decorative stained glass company that pioneered etching and designing and painting on glass in Bangladesh.

She obtained her LLB (Hons) and MBA from Dhaka University and was awarded a Ford Foundation Scholarship to study Small Business Management at Mount Vernon College, Washington DC.

She began her business career in the 1970s at the Bangladesh Handicrafts Cooperative Federation (Karika), which pioneered the marketing of rural artisan arts and crafts, and she is currently the Managing Director of Lily Apparel Ltd and also serving as the Director of Concorde Garments and Osman Interlinings Ltd.

For her glorious career in entrepreneurship and socio-cultural activities, Sabrina Islam has been named the Daily Star-DHL Outstanding Woman in Business (2008), Most Outstanding Woman Entrepreneur in Asia at the Businesswomen’s Forum in Islamic Countries (2008), and the FBCCI-SME Award for Outstanding Woman Entrepreneur (2006).

Apart from being a highly successful entrepreneur and an avid travel photographer, Sabrina Islam is also a traveller, singer, book lover, and jewellery maker.
