State Minister for Youth and Sports Mohammad Zahid Ahsan Russell MP today expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of incumbent president and former director general of Bangla Academy and eminent folklorist Professor Shamsuzzaman Khan.
In a condolence message, the state minister said Professor Shamsuzzaman Khan, recipient of the Bangla Academy Literary Award, has made an outstanding contribution as a researcher on folk culture and rural literature. He successfully served as the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Bangladesh National Museum and the Director General of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and the National Museum. Professor Shamsuzzaman Khan, who received the highest state honor, the Freedom Award, will be remembered for his creative work.
In a condolence message, the State Minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
Prof Shamsuzzaman Khan, breathed his last at around 2.30 pm today at the age of 80.
He was also awarded Ekushey Padak in 2009 and Independence Day Award in 2017.
