Female residential students of Taposhi Rabeya Hall of Rajshahi University on Friday staged a sit-in in front of their hall demanding a few points including cancellation of ‘evening law’.

They alleged that they are not allowed to enter and exit the hall after 8pm and they are forced to take dining meals and threatened with cancellation of seats if they donโ€™t take dining meals. Staff of the hall misbehave with them, and they are not even allowed to cook on their own in the public room of the hall.

Mahmuda Islam, a masterโ€™s student of Folklore department, said “Male students can enter their respective halls when they wish but we canโ€™t. We have never acknowledged these illogical issues. Why can’t university authorities ensure the security of female students? We donโ€™t accept evening law. Hall dining food quality is not good enough, but they peddle us to eat those foods and threaten us to cancel the hall seat if we donโ€™t consume dining food. They enhanced the price of the dining food but the food quality is still the same.”

At one point of the demonstration, Proctor Md Leaket Ali acknowledged their legitimate demands and said, “From now on students can cook on their own and they will be allowed to exit and enter the hall after 8pm, if they have any important work.”
