DHAKA, Dec 20, 2016 (BSS) - Chief Information Commissioner Professor Dr Golam Rahman today said the Right To Information (RTI) ensured right of the common people to get information.
"It is necessary to change the mindset for proper implementation of the Act in the private sector along with the public sector," he said this while speaking as the chief guest at a report publication on Right To Information at the Daily Star Bhaban in the city.
The MRDI organised the report publication ceremony, while director of Ekattor Television Syed Ishtiaq Reza moderated the programme and Ambassador of Switzerland in Dhaka Christian Fotsch spoke as the special guest.
President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Chief Executive of Ekushey Television Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul presented a report on Sharing of Assessment Findings 'How the Bangladeshi Media use the "RTI" Act For Free and Qualitative Reporting.
Among others, associate editor of the Daily Samokal Ajay Das Gupta, chief news editors of ATN Bangla J I Mamun and Ekattor Television Baizid Milky, news editor of ATN News Probhash Amin, business editor of the Daily Prothom Alo Shawkat Hossain Masum and Shahana Huda of Manusher Janno Foundation spoke in the programme.
The chief information commissioner said, "Public and private officials should have to positive for providing information against application seeking information under the Act."
"It is necessary to ensure proper untilization of this Act for good governance and accountability to all tiers of the society as well as the state. For this awareness is necessary in the society," Professor Rahman stated. He said information of all tiers of the administration could be accessed under the Right To Information Act and the media's role is very significant in this sector.
The chief information commissioner, however, said the commission adopted a policy for uncovering information.
