Road crash kills two in Rangpur

The driver of a battery-operated van-cart and its one passenger were killed and a woman was injured in a road accident today at Jamtala point on Rangpur-Dhaka highway in Pirganj upazila here.

"The accident occurred when a passenger bus and the van-cart collided head-on there injuring three persons on board the van-cart at noon," Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Rangpur Highway Circle Zahidur Rahman Chowdhury told BSS.

Being informed, police from Barodorga Highway police station in Pirganj upazila rushed to the spot, rescued the injured persons and sent them to Pirganj Upazila Health Complex.

The on-duty-doctor at the health complex declared two of the injured persons dead and the injured woman Rezina is undergoing treatment there.

The deceased were identified as van-cart driver Md. Mokhlesur Rahman, 50, of village Mohodipur and its passenger Md. Rezaul Islam, 16, of village Kishorgari in Pirganj upazila of Rangpur district.

"We have seized the passenger bus from the spot although its driver and helper managed to escape from the scene soon after the accident," Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Barodorga highway police station Md. Solaiman Ali said.

"A case has been lodged with Pirganj police station in this connection," the OC added.
