The results of the frequent flyer poll to elect the best airlines of 2019 in different categories have been announced at the gala award ceremony at Pan Pacific Sonargaon in Dhaka recently.
Airlines operating in Bangladesh were awarded under a total of 16 categories and based on the number of votes, winning airlines in each category received Gold, Silver and Bronze trophies.
The Bangladesh Monitor, a premier travel and tourism publication of the country organised the event in collaboration with online travel agency ShareTrip.
Emirates was adjudged the Airline of the Year 2019 while Qatar Airways as the Cargo Airline, Air Asia as the Budget Airline and NOVOAIR as the Domestic Airline of the Year.
Emirates won the highest number of trophies including five Gold and four Silver.
Over 2300 frequent flyers casted their votes online on October 13, 2019 and on December 20.
The idea of conducting the poll is to assess popularity of the airlines, operating in Bangladesh; judge their service standards and to create an atmosphere of healthy competitions among them, said Kazi Wahidul Alam, Editor of The Bangladesh Monitor.
The award ceremony was also addressed by Tanveer Ali, Director of ShareTrip, Executive Director of Olympic Group, Daraz Mahmud, General Manager of MGH Travelport, Rejaul Amin Sohail, Director of MasterCard, Stephen James Peters, General Manager of Pan Pacific Sonargaon Dhaka and Prof Shibli Rubayatul Islam, Dean of Business Studies Faculty of University of Dhaka and Chairman of the jury committee.
