DHAKA, Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur Razzaque today urged all concerned to use quality seed to make agriculture profitable.
To make agriculture sector as a profitable one, we have to increase productivity of it while the cost of production should also be reduced we must be watchful so that marginal farmers could use good quality seeds to this end, he said.
The minister made this call while inaugurating the National Seed Fair on Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) premises in city's Farmgate area, a press release said.
Dr Razzaque also said soon the modern laboratories and vegetables processing zones will be set up on two acres of land in city's Purbachal area to mitigate the suffering of the farmers of the country.
The quality of any vegetables brought from different parts of the country can be tested here and at the same time, certificates for marketing of vegetables will also be available. he added.
After the inaugural session, he attended the seminar held at the BARC auditorium with Seed Wing Director General of the agriculture ministry Ashraf Uddin Ahmed in the chair.
Secretary of the Agricultural Ministry Md Nasiruzzaman and Chairman of Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation Fazle Wahed Khandoker were also attended the seminar as special guests.
Chief Scientific Officer of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute Md Iftekharuddaula presented the keynote paper in the seminar. Field Service Wing Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension Dr Md Abdul Muyeed delivered the welcome speech in it.
