A man was burnt to death as a fire broke out at a room on the rooftop of a 5-storey building in the capital's Rampura on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Hai Jamali Bipu,45, son of Abdul Halim Sarder at Ulon Road area of Dhaka's West Rampura.
The fire broke out in the room around 8pm and soon spread, leaving Bipu dead on the spot, said Shahjahan Sikder, Deputy Additional Director of Fire service and Civil Defence headquarters media cell.
On information, two fire-fighting units rushed to the spot and doused the fire at 8:50pm, he added.
It is initially believed that the fire started from a cigarette, he added.
