Rains to drench Bangladesh in 24 hours

The weather department has predicted light to moderate showers across the country in the next 24 hours.

"Light to moderate rains or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely to occur at one or two places over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions," the Bangladesh Meteorological Department said in its weather bulletin on Wednesday.

Day temperature may rise slightly but night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, it added.

The Met office recorded the highest 24mm of rainfall in Sylhet in 24 hours till 6am on Wednesday.

The mercury reached 36.2 degrees Celsius – the highest – in Rangpur, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 25.6 degrees in Chattogram division.

Meanwhile, the axis of the monsoon trough runs through the centre of the well-marked low, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal to Assam across the central part of Bangladesh.

Monsoon is less active over Bangladesh and weak to moderate over the North Bay, as per the bulletin.
