Railway worker honored for act of bravery

Railway Ministry and Bangladesh Railway today honored a rail worker for his brave rescue of a man from committing suicide by jumping on level crossing gate adjacent to the Chashara Railway Station at Narayangonj.

Billal Hossain Mazumder risked his life on November 21 this year by dragging Mohammad Mamun, a pedestrian, out of harm's way as a train approached, said a Railway Ministry press release here.

Railway Minister Md Mujibul Haque called Billal a "hero" at a function in the city and rewarded him with Taka one Lakh in cash and gifted Payjama, Panjabi, Tupi and Lungi.

Addressing the function, the minister said, the railway staffs always work putting their lives on the line, adding "Billal has set an example for mankind and made the Bangladesh Railway as well as the county truly proud."

He also assured Billal of appointing his (Billal) son in the railway department.

Railway Secretary Md Firoz Salah Uddin, Director General of Bangladesh Railway Md Amzad Hossain and officials of the ministry were present at the function, among others, the release said.
