Bangladesh Railway (BR) today signed an agreement with a Chinese firm for the development of Pahartali workshop.
The deal was signed with Chinese contract firm CRRC Sifang Company Limited at a function at Railway Bhaban in the city with Railways Minister M Mujibul Huq attending as the chief guest.
The development project will be implemented by June 2017 with Japanese credit assistance of Taka 116,16,62,847.
BR Additional Director General M Shamsuzzaman and CRRC Sifang Vice-President Chen Zian Peng signed the contract on behalf of their respective organizations.
Railways Secretary M Firoze Salah Uddin, BR Director General M Amzad Hossain and CRRC Sifang Board Chairman Ziang Chun Seng were present at the function as special guests.
Speaking on the occasion, the Mujibul Huq said his ministry has taken a number of initiatives to bring the whole country under rail network as per the directive of the Prime Minister.
Referring to some big projects, he said work is progressing fast for Padma Bridge railway connection, Chittagong-Cox's Bazar-Dohazari new railway lines, parallel bridge at Jamuna Bridge and Khulna-Mongla new railway lines.
