RAB lodges case over Ashkona barrack attack

DHAKA, March 18, 2017 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) last night (Friday) lodged a case with airport police station over the suicidal blast in its Ashkona barrack that killed the lone attacker around 12:30 pm on the day.

"Sub-inspector (SI) Rasheduzzaman of RAB headquarters filed the case under Anti-Terrorism Act against seven to eight unidentified persons," officer in-charge Nur-e Azam Miah told BSS.

Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mizanur Rahman of RAB Legal and Media Wing also confirmed the information.

Two RAB personnel -- constable Arif and lance corporal Mizanur Rahman --were injured in the incident when an unidentified youth detonated his explosive vest being challenged after he entered into the barrack compound.

Meanwhile, a three-member team of forensic experts led by Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Forensic Department Head Dr Sohel Mahmud has carried out autopsy on the body of the suicide bomber this morning.

"From the findings of the autopsy, we believe he blew himself. His body was shredded from the chest till abdomen by the blast and his hands were blown away," Dr Mahmud said to newsmen after the autopsy.

"We have collected his teeth, hair and viscera for DNA testing. We have found pieces of wire in his chest and abdomen, making us believe that the bomb was tied there."
