Quamrul for remaining vigil against militancy

DHAKA, March 28, 2017 (BSS) - Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam today urged all to remain vigil and raise voice against militancy as well as their cohorts who want to turn the country into a militant state.

The minister was addressing a discussion as the chief guest at the Institution of Diploma Engineers' Bangladesh (IDEB) arranged by Awami Sangskritik Jote (ASJ) marking its 24th founding anniversary.

Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Managing Director and Chief Editor Abul Kalam Azad, IDEB President AKM Hamid and General Secretary Shamsur Rahman, former lawmaker Tahura Ali and ASJ General Secretary Ahmed Elias, among others, addressed the meeting with ASJ President Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, MP, in the chair.

Criticizing the BNP-Jamaat' role, Quamrul Islam said they (BNP-Jamaat) are the main patronizer of militancy. He urged the parents to remain alert so that their children could not get involved with militant acts.

Abul Kalam Azad said, "It's known to all who is patronizing militancy directly ... we have to resist them. The country will move towards darkness if we cannot resist it right now."

The present government, he said, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already taken different steps to stamp out militant activities. He also urged the cultural activists to lend their support to this end.
