Quader urges party men to be united for next general polls

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today asked the party leaders and workers to shun their differences and prepare themselves, instead, for the next general election.

"Next national election will be held after two years. Two years are not much time. From now we have to go to door to door of common people to project the government's development activities," he told a meeting organized by Dhaka South City Corporation marking the 10th death anniversary of Mayor Hanif in front of Nagar Bhaban in the city's Gulisthan area.

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, urged the party leaders to make good conduct with the people and party workers, otherwise, he said, all achievements of the party will go in vain.

"If you (leaders and workers) misbehave with people, it will tarnish the image of the Awami League government and all achievements will yield no benefits for us," the Awami League general secretary said.

Quader underscored the need for inducting honest, committed and patriotic people into the committees at different tiers of the party to help it win in the next polls.

Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor and Mayor Hanif's son Sayeed Khokan chaired the function while Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam, Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Haque, Dhaka City North Awami League General Secretary Sadeq Khan, Dhaka City South Awami League General Secretary Shahe Alam Murad and Bangladesh Chhatra League President Saifur Rahman Sohag addressed the meeting, among others.
