DHAKA, Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today urged the media to uphold the success of the government along with criticism.
I urge the media to highlight the government's success along with criticism for the interests of the country and its people, he said.
The minister made the call while addressing an installation ceremony of News Broadcasters Association of Bangladesh (NBA) at the Samson H Chowdhury Centre of Dhaka Club in the capital. Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud also was present on the occasion.
Echoing with Quader's voice, Information Minister Hasan said, I hope that all the concerned persons involved with media will criticize the government side by side with highlighting the success of the government.
The electronic media, he said, has become triple in size in the past 10 years during the tenure of ruling Awami League government. AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ensured freedom of press, he added.
Hasan also sought cooperation of all to establish the 'Sonar Bangla' as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
About the ongoing anti-graft drive, Quader said a vested quarter does not want welfare of the country. The drive has been initiated from home and will continue in the days to come as per the direction of the premier.
NBA convener Saqlain Rasel gave the welcome speech with its president Mumtahina Ritu in the chair. NBA general secretary Javed Kader conducted the ceremony. News presenters from the private television channels and radio stations were present.
Later, the ministers handed over crests to the newly elected committee members of NBA.
