President, PM for quality primary education

DHAKA, Jan 28, 2017 (BSS) - President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today issued separate messages on the occasion of National Primary Education Week-2017 urging all to work sincerely to ensure quality of primary education for balanced and sustainable development.

In his message, on the eve of the week beginning tomorrow, the President said there is no alternative to ensuring quality education and technology based competent manpower for achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Terming the theme of the week 'Enlighten through education, Build digital Bangladesh ' as time befitting, the President said the government has been working relentlessly to ensure quality education for all. Special emphasis has also been laid on achieving the SDGs in the Seventh Five Year Plan of the government, he added.

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman wanted to build a happy and prosperous Bangladesh, he said and hoped that this goal would be achieved with concerted efforts of all.

The Prime Minister in her message said that the present government is giving priority to education sector, particularly primary education, to make a competent new generation with moral and humanitarian values.

Bangladesh has already achieved gender equity in education, which has been appreciated all over the world, she said, adding that the country got UNESCO award as recognition to gender equality in education.

Sheikh Hasina said the government distributed 36 crore 21 lakh 82 thousand and 245 books among primary level students for free on January 1 this year and one crore 17 lakh students from primary to degree levels are given stipends.

She said some 5,400 multimedia class rooms started at government primary schools by supplying laptop and multimedia to make primary education attractive to students.

The government would also be able to build a hunger, poverty, illiteracy and happy and prosperous 'Sonar Bangladesh' as was dreamt by the greatest Bangalee of all times, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, she said.

Both the President and the Prime Minister wished all programs of the week a success.
