President Abdul Hamid has asked Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) to take necessary initiatives to stop the misuse of gas and power and ensure their proper use for the national development.
The President made the call when BERC Chairman (In Charge) Md. Maksudul Haque made a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban here this afternoon, President's Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told BSS.
He also asked the BERC to make it sure that the people's interest is reflected in the activities of the commission.
During the meeting, the BERC chairman informed that a Tk 7,700 crore fund has been formed under the Gas Development Fund Policy and financial assistance is being provided for different projects for gas and power sector from this fund.
He also apprised the President of the overall activities, including the development programmes, of BERC and said the commission has been playing a sincere role in resolving cases relating to the gas and power sectors. He sought the President's cooperation in this regard.
