Urging the young generation to stand up for women, State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatunnesa Indira on Sunday said the current government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has contributed the most to women empowerment.
"I’ve been involved in politics for quite long and I've never seen a government doing so much for women and to ensure their rights...Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman thought for women, worked for them and now his daughter our Prime Minister and the capable government under her leadership are empowering women," she said.
The state minister was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion arranged by the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) on the significance of the International Women's Day in the city's Nilkhet area.
With the theme of equality among coming generations, the discussion had academicians, students, banking and government officials exchanging their views on the current situation of women empowerment across the country.
Indira said the government is planning to set up more residential hostels for working women. "Our Prime Minister has already planned many schemes to help out the working women of the country...soon we’ll be setting up Karmajibi Mohila Hostel in each district," she said.
Prof Dr Sadeka Halim, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences of Dhaka University, was present as the keynote speaker at the discussion while ICMAB President Jasim Uddin Akond presided over the event.
