Prepare to tackle cyclone ‘Amphan’: Secretary

Water Resources Ministry Secretary Kabir Bin Anwar on Sunday asked officials concerned to take necessary preparations as a severe cyclonic storm ‘Amphan’ is likely to hit the coastal areas of Khulna division on Wednesday evening.

The secretary came up with the instruction at an emergency meeting of the ministry in this regard.

The cyclone might hit Khulna and adjacent areas as it is gradually moving towards north and north-west, said the secretary adding that they were observing its movement persistently.

“The authorities concerned are requested to take necessary preparations as heavy rains and tidal surge are likely to occur even if the cyclone doesn’t make landfall in Bangladesh,” Anwar said.
