DHAKA, The leaders of the Bangladesh Auto Biscuit and Bread Manufacturing Association has demanded of the government for framing a policy guideline for the sustainable flourishment of the biscuit and bread industry in the country.
The leaders of the Association placed the demand while holding a meeting with Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun at his office today.
Association President M Shafiqur Rahman Bhuiyan led the delegation while its adviser Sharif M Afzal Hossain, EC committee members M Jamal Razzak, Mobarak Ali, M Nazim Uddin and Mazharul Hasan Khan were present.
The Association leaders said once the policy guideline is finalized, it would be possible to maintain discipline in this sector alongside ensuring qualitative development of the food industry, said a Ministry press release.
The meeting was discussed in details about forming the safe food industrial sector as well as qualitative standard upgradation of the biscuit and bread industry, product diversification and export boosting.
The Industries Minister said that ensuring environmentfriendly factories and safe food is one of the priorities of the present government adding, The government won't compromise on the qualitative standard of food. The Industries Ministry will take stern stance to prevent adulteration trend of popular brand items.
He also suggested setting up worldclass food industries in the country to tap the huge potentials of exports alongside the domestic market.
Later, a delegation of the Bangladesh Agro Processors Association, led by its President AFM Fakhrul Islam Munshi met the Industries Minister at his office.
During the meeting, they discussed about the problems and potentials of this agroprocessing sector.
The Association leaders informed that Bangladesh earned Taka 5,500 crore in the FY18 from the agroprocessing sector while the Bangladeshi agricultural products are being exported to some 144 countries of the world.
It will be possible to boost the export earnings from this sector to Taka 10,000 crore over the next five years if they get necessary policy support.
Welcoming the suggestion for enhancing the capacity of the laboratory of BSTI to test the processed foods, Humayun assured them of installing new machineries at the BSTI laboratory in line with the demands of the entrepreneurs.
He also said that the present government would continue all kinds of possible policy support to flourish the agroprocessed industry.
