Poet Shazzad Qadir laid to eternal rest

TANGAIL, April 7, 2017 (BSS) - Eminent poet Shazzad Qadir was laid to eternal rest with state honour at his family graveyard at Mirer Betka village in Delduar Upazila of the district today.

Renowned poet and journalist Shazzad Qadir breathed his last at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital at 2 pm yesterday. He was at 70.

Earlier his first Namaj-e-Janaza was held on the premises of National Press Club at 5 pm yesterday.

Later his second Janaza-e-Janaza was held at Bindu Basini Govt. Boys High School in Tangail at 10:30 am today.

Valiant freedom fighter Bongo Bir Abdul Kader Siddique, freedom fighter Anowarul Alom Shahid, Mayor of Tangail municipality Jamilur Rahman Miron attened the Janaza, among others.

Shazzad Qadir took part in the liberation war in 1971. He wrote many poems as well as short stories, novels, plays and essays.

Born at Mirer Betka village in Tangail on April 14 in 1947, Sazzad Qadir became a prominent poet in 1960s. In 1976, he started his carrier in journalism at the weekly magazine 'Bichitra'.
