DHAKA Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep
shock and sorrow at the death of Ambassador Syed Muazzem Ali.
In a condolence message today, the Prime Minister recalled with gratitude
the outstanding role of Syed Muazzem Ali to the emergence of Bangladesh in
1971. While serving in the Pakistan Embassy in Washington DC during the
Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, Ali declared his allegiance to the
government of Bangladesh, the premier said, adding that he also played
important role in establishing Bangladesh embassy in Washington DC.
Death of such a diplomat is an irreparable loss to the country and the
nation, she added.
The Prime Minister prayed for eternal peace of his departed soul and
conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Ambassador Syed Muazzem Ali, former foreign secretary, breathed his last
at 11:45 am today at the CMH due to old age complications.
