PM mourns death of Jayalalithaa

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today expressed deep shock at the death of Jayaraman Jayalalithaa, the chief minister of Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

In a condolence message, the Premier recalled the chequered political career of Jayalalithaa and said as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, her contributions towards the economic development of the state and social welfare of the poorer segments will be long remembered.

"Her death is an irreparable loss to the people of India ... my thoughts and prayers are with the people of India, particularly Tamil Nadu, in this hour of grief," she said.

Sheikh Hasina prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.
