PM maintains round-the-clock contact with Dhaka about cyclone

DHAKA, May 29, 2017 (BSS) - Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, now in Austria on a two-day official visit, is maintaining round-the-clock contact with Dhaka about the cyclonic storm 'Mora'.

Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told BSS over phone from Vienna that the premier has directed the administration to take allout preparation to face the cyclone.

The press secretary said the prime minister also asked the authorities concerned to take necessary steps and perform their respective duties properly in this regard.

Sheikh Hasina arrived in the Austrian capital this afternoon to attend a conference of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) marking the 60th anniversary of the agency.

The cyclonic storm 'Mora' over north-bay and adjoining east central bay moved slightly northwards further over the same area, intensified into a severe cyclonic storm and centered at 6 pm today about 385 kms south of Chittagong port, 305 kms south of Cox's Bazar port, 450 kms south-southeast of Mongla port and 370 kms south-southeast of Payra port.

It is likely to intensify further, move in a northerly direction and may cross Chittagong - Cox's Bazar coast by tomorrow morning.

Maritime ports of Chittagong and Cox's Bazar have been advised to hoist great danger signal number 10 while Mongla and Payra ports to hoist great danger signal number eight.
