PM Hasina welcomes her Bhutanese counterpart Dr Tshering at Dhaka airport

A red carpet was rolled out at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HISA) in Dhaka on Tuesday morning as Bhutanese Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering arrived here on a three-day official visit.

The Bhutanese Prime Minister is the fourth among the world leaders after that of the Maldives, Sri Lanka and Nepal to attend the celebrations of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Golden Jubilee of the country’s independence.

The VVIP aircraft of Druk Air, carrying the Bhutanese Prime Minister and his entourage, landed at the airport at 9:30am.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina welcomed him at the VVIP tarmac of the airport presenting him with a bouquet.

Dr Lotay Tshering was given an honour guard by a smartly turned out contingent drawn from the Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force at the airport.

Both the Prime Ministers witnessed the state honour from a makeshift dais as the national anthem of the respective countries was played.

Later, the Sri Lankan Prime Minister inspected the parade.

On the occasion, ministers, state ministers, civil and military high officials were, among others, present at the airport.

From the airport, the visiting Bhutanese head of the government went to pay tributes to the martyrs of the Liberation War of Bangladesh by placing wreaths at the National Memorial in Savar.

Lotay Tshering signed the visitors’ book and planted a sapling there, and saw the Mimusops Elengi Variegata sapling he planted on April 12, 2019.

He will also visit Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi No. 32 to pay tributes to the country's founding Father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He will visit the museum and sign the visitors’ book there.

Later, he is scheduled to visit the BIMSTEC Secretary General’s residence and have a meeting with the Secretary General and directors.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen will meet him at the Presidential Suite of the hotel.

In the evening, the Bhutanese Prime Minister will attend the cultural programme and banquet to be hosted by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in honour of him.

On Wednesday, Lotay Tshering is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and it will be by bilateral talks.

After the talks, a couple of MoUs are likely to be signed between Bangladesh and Bhutan to enhance the cooperation between the two countries.

The Bhutanese Prime minister will pay a courtesy call on Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban.

Later, in the afternoon, Lotay Tshering will join the celebration at National Parade Square as the guest of honoor. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will receive him there.
